These assessments help us identify any potential issues with your mouth, jaw, or teeth. Being able to address these potential concerns early is vital to keeping the issue from developing into a more serious concern. To learn more about preventive care and how it can benefit your oral health, schedule a consultation at our office in Walnut Creek, CA today.

What Can I Expect During Preventive Care Appointments?

Your visit to our office will begin with a comprehensive exam of your oral health. Digital x-rays may be taken during this time to screen for any abnormalities in the tissue. We will also examine your neck, jaw, head, temporomandibular joints, airway, and bite. If you have any dental restorations, our team will check them for fit and wear. Following the exam, we will discuss any health concerns you have and create a treatment plan that meets your goals for any dental concerns found.

I want to give a shout-out to Rachel, who is an amazing hygienist. I have been with Life Dental for many years, long before the name of the practice changed. I have been treated by many hygienists over the years, all really wonderful, and Rachel is #1 on my ‘top 10’ list. She is thorough and extremely efficient - a super smart and skilled hygienist. Rachel takes time to get to know her patients - she remembers highlights in my life that she will ask me about at my next appointment, and she exhibits genuine interest. She is a thoughtful and caring person, and a true professional. In general, all services, from the front office to dental care provided by Life Dental are exemplary and I can’t recommend this dental practice more highly.

I took my young boys to Life dental & Orthodontics because they were airway focused and that was really important for a family! We were mostly helped with Katie the RDA and she was so great with the boys made everything fun and super patient with them. I also really appreciated how in-depth Dr. Hockel explained everything to myself and our kids. My boys can get easily overwhelmed and he had such gentle and calm energy throughout the whole process! I really appreciated that! Highly recommend this team! :) Jessie at the front desk is also super helpful and sweet!

How often do I need preventive dental care?

The American Dental Association typically suggests scheduling a checkup every six months to maintain optimal dental health. These checkups include professional cleaning and a comprehensive dental examination to detect any early signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health concerns. For those with specific risk factors or a higher likelihood of developing cavities or gum disease, more frequent visits may be needed. Dr. Hockel can offer personalized advice on how often you should receive preventive dental care.

What happens if I get behind on my dental visits?

Sticking to your recommended preventive dental care schedule is important, but we understand that life can get busy and you might miss an appointment. If this happens, don't worry, but call us to reschedule as soon as possible. This helps to prevent plaque and tartar buildup, tooth decay, cavities, and other potential issues.

What dental treatments are considered preventive?

Typically, the most common preventive dentistry services include dental exams and in-office cleanings. In some instances, treatments like fluoride applications, sealants, and other procedures may also be considered preventive. However, insurance coverage for these services can vary.
