What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Cavities, one of the most common dental problems, are created when bacteria attack your dental enamel. In the past, cavities were filled with an amalgam material, which is a mixture of different metals, including silver or mercury. Now we know that amalgam fillings don't adhere fully with the enamel and the mercury is hazardous to your health. At Life Dental & Orthodontics in Walnut Creek, CA, we use tooth-colored fillings made from a composite resin to fill cavities and protect the tooth. We can also take out metal fillings and apply tooth-colored fillings instead for a safer and better-looking treatment for cavities. To learn more about tooth-colored fillings or get your amalgam fillings replaced, contact our office today.

What Should I Expect When Having A Tooth Filled?

Getting a filling with composite resin at Life Dental & Orthodontics is generally a simple process. The treatment area will be numbed with a local anesthetic to minimize your discomfort. Stronger forms of sedation can be considered for any fears or dental anxieties to help keep you relaxed. Once you are ready, the infected enamel can be cleared away with a dental drill that we will select based on the location of the cavity in the tooth and the amount of decay. After the enamel is removed and the tooth is disinfected, the space will be filled with the composite material and set. We will polish the composite resin so it feels comfortable and matches your other teeth.

I was very impressed with Dr. Ching and the staff. I will be having a lot done and feel confident I’m in very good hands.

L.A. Google

I’ve been a patient of Life Dental since around 1976, first as a patient of Dr. Jack Hockel, then Dr. Jack and his son, Dr. Brian Hockel, and now Dr. Ching, an associate dentist with Dr. Brian under the new business name,  Life Dental and Orthodontics.  My experience with what I call the Hockel team has been nothing but exceptional.  The quality of their work is outstanding - all services from reception, to dental hygiene (shoutout for Rachel!), to restorative care...I’ve had it all. I recently had a filling redone by Dr. Ching, my first  visit with her, and she was wonderful - very gentle, checked in periodically to make sure I was doing ok, and shared some parts of the procedure she was doing along the way. I felt like an artist was performing the work and, indeed, when given a mirror, the result was amazing. The spot was on a front tooth and it looked like I had a new tooth. I can’t recommend this practice more highly.  One visit and you feel like the most important patient in the practice.
