What Are Dental X-rays?

Digital dental x-rays, also known as digital dental radiographs, are performed during a dental exam to provide a more thorough picture of your oral health. They make it easier for us to diagnose problems that aren't visible and to learn about your oral health by showing the inside of your mouth, including the teeth, gums, and jaw. There are several dental and oral problems that can be seen on dental x-rays, such as decay, cavities, cysts, abscesses, impactions, and bone loss. We proudly offer a variety of 2-D and 3-D dental imaging, including CBCT scans and intraoral scans, to view the jaw joints and airway. If dental problems can be identified early, there may be more effective and less invasive treatment options available. As part of your annual dental examination at Life Dental & Orthodontics in Walnut Creek, CA, digital dental imaging will help accurately diagnose and correct oral health issues.

What Should I Expect During Dental X-rays?

Often done at the start of a dental cleaning or exam, digital dental x-rays take about 5 – 10 minutes to do. Most patients will have a set of dental x-rays to show the needed areas. Once they are taken, they will be uploaded and can be viewed throughout your examination. We can show you any abnormalities and discuss possible treatments.

I want to give a shout-out to Rachel, who is an amazing hygienist. I have been with Life Dental for many years, long before the name of the practice changed. I have been treated by many hygienists over the years, all really wonderful, and Rachel is #1 on my ‘top 10’ list. She is thorough and extremely efficient - a super smart and skilled hygienist. Rachel takes time to get to know her patients - she remembers highlights in my life that she will ask me about at my next appointment, and she exhibits genuine interest. She is a thoughtful and caring person, and a true professional. In general, all services, from the front office to dental care provided by Life Dental are exemplary and I can’t recommend this dental practice more highly.

I took my young boys to Life dental & Orthodontics because they were airway focused and that was really important for a family! We were mostly helped with Katie the RDA and she was so great with the boys made everything fun and super patient with them. I also really appreciated how in-depth Dr. Hockel explained everything to myself and our kids. My boys can get easily overwhelmed and he had such gentle and calm energy throughout the whole process! I really appreciated that! Highly recommend this team! :) Jessie at the front desk is also super helpful and sweet!
